Female ACL Injuries

Why are females more prone to ACL injury? The answer is muti-faceted. Several theories exist focussing on the anatomical differences between males and females, motor-control patterns dealing with activation of muscles around the knee, and hormonal effects on ligamentous laxity. Specific training with a physical therapist can be vital in decreasing the chance of a devastating  ACL injury.

With over 20 years of clinical experience, Mark is an expert in the field of sports and orthopedic physical therapy and athletic performance. He has successfully treated patients from the worlds of the NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, Major Professional Tennis Champions, Professional Supercross, PGA, U.S. Professional Ski and Snowboard Tours, Ironman Triathletes, as well as memebers of the U.S. National Mens' Soccer Team and U.S. National Womens' Basketball teams. Mark has also treated many Division 1 college athletes, elite high school athletes, and youth athletes of all ages and competitive levels. He has coached and officiated baseball, soccer, basketball and football for many years, giving Mark a unique perspective in the physical and mental demands of sport.

Mark has proudly lived his whole life in Yorba Linda, graduating from Glenknoll, Bernado Yorba and Esperanza High School. He then studied Exercise Science at Occidental College where he played intercollegiate baseball and golf. He later graduated with honors from Loma Linda University in 1997 with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. Mark and his wife Tara (also a YL native and EHS alum) still live in Yorba Linda with their two children.

No presrcription is required to begin treatment (Medicare and work-comp injuries excluded), so we can treat your injury right away. We can generally offer same or next-day appointments, and we are happy to offer referrals out when needed for imaging and M.D. evaluation. We accept many PPO insurance plans, and we offer discounted cash rates that are often cheaper than contracted insurance rates. Even if we are not "in network" with a particular insurance plan, we are often still able to accept your insurance- simply stop in and let us check your particular insurance benefits prior to treatment without any obligation.

What You Can Expect:

You will receive an individualized evaluation and treatment your first visit, and a unique treatment plan will be constructed based upon your evaluation results and goals. You will be treated by a licensed Physical Therapist every visit. Treatments often consist of various manual therapy techniques the therapist will use to gain motion and/or strength and reduce pain, therapeutic exericses, modalities (that may include electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, ultrasound, heat/ice packs, etc) for pain relief, swelling reduction, healing promotion, etc. You will also be given a home program to supplement your clinical treatments. Progress reports will be sent to your doctor when you return for re-checks and when appropriate.
